Credentials

The Credentials menu section organizes platform features that help manage badges awarded to Students. Review the Badge Manager article for additional information about the Badge Manager.

Credentialing Life Cycle

A badge is a credential that allows students to demonstrate specific skills gained through various educational experiences. Institution Admins can create badges manually in the platform via the Badge Manager or in bulk via the Badge API. Once created, the Badge Assertion Badge Process can optionally be used to award badges in bulk; if bulk awarding is not performed, the platform awards a badge once the student meets the configured award criteria. Once awarded, students receive an email notification to claim their new digital badge.

Award Criteria

Badges can be associated with courses or co-curriculars via the experience's Details page. When associated with an experience, badges are configured with specific award criteria to define when a student is deemed eligible to receive a badge.

How Badges Are Awarded

The platform offers multiple options for awarding completion badges when a student is enrolled in and completes a course section or a co-curricular section.

  • Data Files: This method awards completion-based badges. The badge will be awarded on the current term-end date.

  • CLO Assessment Aligned: These badges also utilize the data files, but are awarded at the end of a successful CLO assessment, which completes on the last day of class for the following term.

  • Platform Enrollment Import Process: Unlike data files, this process can award badges before the term end date. Learn more:

  • Badge Batch Assertion Process: Use this process for badges that are not aligned to course or co-curricular enrollment or to a term. These badges can be awarded at any time through the badge batch assertion process. Learn more.
