Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't the Student View option in Canvas not functioning?

Canvas Student View is not compatible with the HelioCampus Canvas LTI tool. This is because 'Student View' is not a real user account in the platform. When Canvas attempts to launch the Student View, the platform cannot authenticate the request because no matching user account is found.

To validate what students see, use the login as functionality for the student’s platform user account. While impersonating, to view the syllabus as a student would navigate to Course Section Homepage > Course Syllabus and select Preview from the Export menu. This impersonation launches the syllabus as an actual student user so the LTI tool can authenticate, and the syllabus will display as expected.
